We need action to end avoidable blindness

Imagine being blind purely because of circumstance. It’s almost unthinkable, yet millions of people around the world are suffering from this exact fate.

The number of people living with avoidable blindness could triple by 2050 unless governments worldwide take decisive action.

*A recent report in The Lancet showed that, without better funding and access to eye care services, the number of people who are blind will rise from 36 million to 115 million over the next 30 years.

The reason people live with blindness is they can’t access quality eye health care. In many cases, a straightforward 20-minute operation can restore sight or a dose of antibiotics can prevent blindness.

"Governments need to strengthen their commitment to tackling preventable loss of sight. Every one of us needs to take a stand and get involved."

Please sign our pledge to end avoidable blindness now. Showing your support takes less than a minute but means the world to us.

We will take your support with us as we lobby with five other organisations for avoidable blindness and poor vision to be on the agenda at the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
