The gap is getting wider.

We know what Fred would say if he were here today. It’s shameful.

The gap between the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians and other Australians is getting wider.

We have seen some progress in eye health indicators, but there’s still a long way to go. Here’s why:

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians are three times more likely than other Australians to go blind;

90 per cent of that blindness is preventable;

Australia is also the only developed country in the world where endemic trachoma still exists.

It’s time our Governments made a stronger commitment. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health was one of Fred Hollows’ greatest passions, so we’re asking all of our generous supporters to take a quick, easy action that has a chance to make great change.

We’re calling for the Federal Budget to include adequate, long-term funding to close the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health gap and to ensure that governments provide resources to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and community services to lead the way.

Please add your name to that call now.
